Publication Record

The Publication.

Talvero Quarterly is an independent editorial publication based in London. It exists to document the experience of beginning an active life — not the optimised version, but the actual beginning. The first walk. The first session on the mat. The first week where a habit holds.

Established 2024, the publication has produced three issues to date, each covering a distinct area of beginner movement practice.

Eleanor Whitfield
Primary Editor & Founder

Eleanor began Talvero Quarterly in the winter of 2024 after observing that most beginner fitness content assumed a baseline of capability that many readers simply did not have. The question that started the publication was direct: what does the first month of movement actually look like, and why does almost no one document it honestly?

Over the following months, Eleanor documented her own transition from a largely sedentary daily routine into a consistent practice of walking, bodyweight exercise, and gradual cardiovascular activity. The articles produced during this period became the first issue of the publication.

Eleanor holds a background in editorial journalism, having previously contributed to several independent UK publications focused on everyday practice and slow living. She approaches movement with the same lens: observation first, directive never.

"The starting point is not a deficiency. It is simply a starting point."

Articles written by Eleanor are reviewed by a second editor before publication and draw on published exercise science where relevant. She discloses any commercial relationships that may influence her selection of subject matter, in line with the publication's editorial principles.

Those who document.

01
Tobias Ashcroft
Contributing Editor — Home Sessions

Tobias joined the publication in February 2025 to document a structured programme of home-based bodyweight exercise. His series — beginning from rest and progressing through four weeks of squats, push-up variations, and plank holds — became one of the publication's most referenced pieces. Tobias writes with precision and avoids the language of aspiration.

02
Harriet Marsden
Contributing Editor — Weekly Planning

Harriet contributes research notes and programme reviews. Her background in secondary education gives her an unusual clarity about how habits actually form — or fail to — in the first four to eight weeks of a new routine. She reviews contributor articles for logical progression before publication.

03
Jasper Linwood
Guest Contributor — Outdoor Movement

Jasper contributed a single-issue record of his eight-week walking programme conducted in Central London parks. His documentation style is methodical and spare, noting step counts, duration, and weekly variation without interpretation or extrapolation. His articles are archived in Issues 02 and 03.

Publication principles.

01
Second-Editor Review

Every article is reviewed by at least one second editor before publication. No piece appears under a single unchecked perspective.

02
Source Citation

Where articles draw on published exercise science, sources are cited in the text. Readers can follow the references independently.

03
Public Corrections

Corrections to published articles are noted publicly within the piece and listed in the publication log at the end of each issue.

04
Commercial Disclosure

Writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter or editorial framing.

05
No Aspiration Language

The publication does not use aspirational or transformation-focused language. Observations are documented without promise of outcome.

06
Progression-First

Every documented programme begins from rest. This is not a publication for those already active. It is for those beginning.

Where the documentation happens.

Talvero Quarterly is based in London, United Kingdom. The publication operates from a small editorial workspace at 17 Old Compton Street, W1D 4HS. All documented programmes take place either in London parks, on London streets, or in the domestic spaces of the contributors.

There is no studio. There is no gym. The publications are produced from the same environments in which most beginners find themselves: a living room with a rolled-out mat, a pair of comfortable shoes, and a morning with an unscheduled hour.

Correspondence is welcomed. The publication reads and responds to all reader notes sent to [email protected]. Reader accounts of their own first weeks are particularly valued.
